Karma Is Now Paid – All You Need to Know

Why Karma Is Going Paid (and What You Get in Return)

We want to share some exciting news about our apps and where we are heading next. We believe we can help a lot more people when our apps are free. That’s why we’re launching not just one, but three brand-new apps for Confluence:

  • First, Aura Table Filter, and second, Aura Analytics – both completely free.

  • Third, we’re introducing Aura Page Workflows & Approvals – a powerful premium app that helps teams manage reviews and approvals with ease.

Our Page Builder Karma, has been free since its launch in 2022. Since then, we have released lots of new features, always for both Free and Pro users, and we have provided fast personal co-founder support also for both Free and Pro users.

Aura and Karma are now two of the top rated Confluence apps on the Atlassian Marketplace, Aura at number three, Karma at number four. Karma is also the number one formatting app with over 5,400 active installs and more than 110 four star reviews.

We've also achieved cloud fortified status from Atlassian and earned ISO 27001 certification to keep bringing you powerful new features and free apps.

Karma is now becoming a paid app. The price is very fair, just 60% of Aura's, and it brings even more stability and momentum to the entire Aura Apps Suite. Your subscription helps us move faster, support you better, and invest in tools that make your Confluence experience more engaging, branded and efficient.

We build Karma to help organizations create the most engaging pages in confluence. And thanks to your support, we've done exactly that. Thank you for being part of this journey.

What Should I Do Now?

➡️ Case 1 – You have 10 or fewer Confluence users (Karma remains free)

  1. Go to Apps → Manage Apps

  2. In the Karma section, click Paid Update

  3. The button will change to Free Trial — click that too

Don’t worry — Karma will remain free for you after the trial.
You won’t be charged.
This confusing flow is due to Atlassian’s UX wording — it doesn’t matter whether you’re on the Confluence Free, Standard, or Premium plan.

➡️ Case 2 - You have more than 10 Confluence users

You can continue using Karma as usual until June 16, 2025.

Before that date, choose one of the following:

  • Start your free 30-day Karma trial

  • Or uninstall Karma if you no longer wish to use it

Starting Trial

  • Go to Apps → Manage Apps

  • In the Karma section, click Paid Update

  • The button will change to Free Trial — click that too

  • This starts your free 30 days trial via Atlassian

Uninstalling Karma

Uninstalling Karma won’t delete your content, but it will prevent Confluence from displaying it properly. Your data remains safely stored and will become visible again if you reinstall Karma. Additionally, some Aura features—provided through Karma—will no longer be available after uninstallation.

Do I need to purchase Karma if I already have Aura?

  • If you only purchase Karma, you get Karma Standard: the core page builder with essential layout features.

  • If you own Aura and then purchase Karma, you automatically unlock Karma Pro features.

  • Important: Aura alone does not make Karma functional.
To view and edit pages built with Karma, a Karma license is required — even if you have Aura.

I purchased Aura and installed Karma when it was free. Do I need to pay for Karma now?

Yes, Karma is now a paid app, so you’ll need a separate license for it — even if you already use Aura.

If I buy Karma, do I get Karma Pro?

No. Just like before, Karma Pro is unlocked through our app Aura. This behavior hasn’t changed — owning Karma alone does not include Pro features.

What is the difference between Aura and Karma? Why should I use both?

TL;DR: Why should I use Aura and Karma together?

Use Aura for enhancing content within a page. Use Karma to design entire pages — especially space homepages. Both apps unlock features in each other and work best as a team.

What’s the difference between Aura and Karma? Should I use both?

Yes — and here’s why.
It’s not a question of Aura or Karma, but rather when to use which.
Both serve different — but equally important — purposes in Confluence. Used together, they give you everything you need to build structured, engaging, and visually appealing content across your entire site.tent.

Aura – Advanced Formatting for Content Elements

Aura is a suite of 16 content macros designed to improve interaction and structure within a Confluence page. Use it when you want to:

  • Replace plain links with engaging Buttons or Cards

  • Organize long pages with Tabs, Child Tabs, or Expands

  • Add clarity with Dividers, Panels, Status indicators, or Dynamic Content

  • Standardize design with Color Palettes, Custom Fonts, and Macro Templates

Aura is about fine-grained control, interaction, and a better reading experience.

Karma – Visual Page Builder for Full-Page Design

Karma is a modern, intuitive page builder macro for designing full Confluence pages — especially space homepages.

  • Build fully custom cards by combining text, media, layout, and visuals

  • Use professional templates or create your own for team-wide reuse

  • Benefit from top-tier performance, since Karma loads your whole layout in one macro (unlike multiple macros that load sequentially in the cloud)

  • Perfect for landing pages, onboarding hubs, or project dashboards

Use Karma when you need layouts, visual storytelling, and maximum impact.
